Kirk Herbstreit had the privilege of calling another incredible Rose Bowl matchup and went on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt to talk about it.

The latest edition of the Rose Bowl didn’t disappoint. Games like that are something that Herbstreit hopes for as a broadcaster, but don’t always come to fruition.

“That game, that’s what it’s all about. That’s what you hope for, is a game like that. When you see Michigan and Alabama at the Rose Bowl you hope it’s a good game, you don’t know if it’s gonna be a good game,” said Herbstreit. “Then the momentum swings the way that the game went back and forth. As good as you can hope for. Congratulations to both those teams.”

For the Crimson Tide, it wasn’t the storybook ending that they’d hoped, but it resembled how the season had gone for them, Herbstreit said. Jalen Milroe battled until the very end, leaving everything on the field.

“Alabama gave everything they had. Jalen Milroe, it’s been a remarkable story where he started this year. Got benched, came back, battled, made some big plays,” said Herbstreit. “This game was very symbolic of their season. It looked like Michigan was gonna pull away and they came storming back in the 2nd half. Then here came Michigan back. It was a game of momentum. It was college football.”

The national championship will be decided between Michigan and Washington on Jan. 8.
