Kool-Aid McKinstry has wrapped up his time in Tuscaloosa, the star defensive back confirmed on Thursday.
Originally a 5-star recruit and major in-state prospect, McKinstry developed into a major contributor in Alabama’s secondary. After a breakout 2022 performance, McKinstry finished second on the Crimson Tide with 7 pass breakups this season.
Now, McKinstry is confirming earlier reports that he will depart Nick Saban’s program for the 2024 NFL Draft. Terrion Arnold — Alabama’s leader with 12 pass breakups — is also expected to enter the draft this year.
“Crimson Tide, thank you for all of the support over the past three years,” wrote McKinstry. “You are the best fans in the world, and I will always cherish the memories I have at Bryant-Denny Stadium.”
During the 2022 season, McKinstry led the Tide with 15 pass breakups as a lockdown piece of the secondary. He also delivered 332 punt return yards while averaging 15.8 yards per return as a sophomore.
“I am so proud of what I have accomplished at the University of Alabama,” McKinstry continued. “With that, I’m ready to take the next step and will be entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Bama for life.”
