It’s no secret that Lane Kiffin and Nick Saban didn’t have the best relationship when they worked together at Alabama.

The only evidence you need is the outbursts the head coach had on Kiffin, who was his offensive coordinator. That strained relationship led to Kiffin leaving to take the Florida Atlantic head coaching position before last year’s national title game.

However, on Saturday’s College GameDay show, Kiffin said he learned a lot from the five-time national champion and still uses what he learned on a daily basis (via 247Sports):

“The last 26 times we went out on that field, we were 26-0,” Kiffin said. “Did it take some getting used to by me? Was it rough at first? Yes, but it’s my fault. He’s the head coach. You’ve got to remember, prior to that the last I was an assistant coach was six straight years and that was (under) Pete Carroll. Three years with Saban changed me.

“Best in the world at what he does. There’s not a day that goes by where there’s not something I don’t draw out of my head with ‘what would Coach Saban do?'”

Obviously, Kiffin’s experience under Saban is paying off, as Florida Atlantic has undergone a drastic turnaround and is undefeated in Conference USA play.

Whether that leads to a bigger, better job this year or next remains to be seen, but Kiffin is doing a great job of putting what he learned from Saban into practice.
