Nick Saban says he frequently gets asked if he is having fun in his role as Alabama coach.

When you see the Crimson Tide coach on the sidelines, he rarely is smiling, and he is usually never satisfied with how his team is performing.

But during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday, Saban confirmed to Patrick that he is actually having fun in his role.

“Even though I don’t feel like it, I must look like I’m not enjoying it, because why else would people ask?” Saban said. “But I actually am enjoying it. But it’s challenging, and I think the most challenging thing is to stay focused on is keeping the real things the real things. Don’t worry about all the external factors and expectations and comments that people are making, what you’re ranked and all that. Because your ranking, rating, all that noise right now means nothing.”

During the segment, Patrick joked with Saban that the Alabama coach must have been waiting for his appearance on the show to announce Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa as his starting quarterback. However, Saban didn’t bite, giving a vague answer similar to the ones he’s given all preseason.

The Tide open the season against Louisville at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
