LOOK: Damien Harris laments 'sad' turnout by Alabama student section
The Alabama Crimson Tide kicked off at 11 a.m. locally on Saturday against an overmatched Louisiana squad, cruising to a 56-14 victory.
However, not many fans showed up to Bryant-Denny Stadium to see the No. 1 team in the country in action.
On Monday, star RB Damien Harris said the lack of turnout — particularly from the student section — was disheartening to see:
This makes me sad, if i’m being all the way honest. https://t.co/ZLBelVGX0d
— Damien Harris (@DHx34) October 1, 2018
No, the Ragin’ Cajuns weren’t the highest-profile opponent the Tide could have faced, but you’d think people would be excited to see star QB Tua Tagovailoa and the undefeated Crimson Tide in action.
If Harris thinks this crowd turnout was bad, things could get even uglier for a Week 12 game against The Citadel.
The stadium had a lot more fans in it than that shortly after kickoff…
Bama has only played one team with a pulse so far this season. The schedule has not been very exciting. The team is great and the fans are becoming spoiled. That’s not a great combo. Bama needs to bring in some quality opponents. Playing Tennessee from the East every season surely doesn’t help. When your choice is to either watch quality games at home or watch Bama destroy another cupcake, many fans are going to choose quality games.
Dear lsu fan, i’m sure you are very impressed with lsu’s 5-0 start and defeating 2 powerhouse programs miami and auburn (so miss almost defeated auburn). However, please remember a few facts before offering advice to the premier program in college football: 1. Bama has defeated lsu 6 times STRAIGHT. 2. Bama has won 5 Nattys in 9 short years (lsu 0 nattys in same time period).3. LSU lost to Troy last season which is the 3 or 4th best team in the state of Alabama 4.Wait until November 3 which is the annual doomsday for lsu this year. Just keep these facts in mind the next time you have suggestions for the program that owns lsu.
I already know all those facts and none of them mean I can’t render an opinion.
@BamaRules- Please remember these things before posting in the future… 1) Try to be an adult and respond to what’s posted rather than just going off on random, irrelevant tangents. 2) Troll the trolls. If someone says something reasonable, it deserves a reasonable response. 3) LSUSMC is 100% spot on in his post and you offered absolutely nothing of value in return. 4) We’ve beaten LSU 7 times straight :-)
He’s obviously a child. Being a loudmouth on a sports message board makes him feel like a tough guy. Good for him.
LSUSMC, I have watch several of LSUs games and believe them to be a very good team. I’m interested in you take on the gamesleading up to the Bama game. Do you think LSU will be undefeated when they play Bama?
Not sure about that. For now, I just want to beat UF. UGA will be a huge test and LSU will have to play their best game of the season to have a shot. MSU has shown themselves to be very beatable. I would guess that LSU has one loss when Bama comes to town. I still have hope that we will be undefeated, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
you obviously suffer from sugma…. nobody wants to see bama beat losers play some quality opponents maybe us? you gotta beat lsu first and thn we talk. mmmkay?
Amazes me that idiots don’t realize every SEC team makes schedules out the same way. Everybody plays cupcakes and schedules are made out years in advance. Example: Louisville was very good back when they was scheduled AND lastly the SEC rotates SEC east opponents. It would be just as stupid to say Georgia didn’t want to schedule Alabama this year. Educate yourself before saying something stupid.
but thats something no one can control…. there are some things that are guarantees in life. As they say Death, taxes, and georgia winning the SEC again…
Louisville was NOT very good back when they scheduled alabama..
exactly what is this man talkin’ bout?
Eh, they had Lamar, so I think the consensus was that they’d at least be a top 25, 10 win team. They needed an ACC-SEC matchup, and they probably didn’t want one that would potentially repeat itself in the postseason, a la Clemson, so it was a pretty logical pick at the time.
They scheduled Louisville before Lamar became Lamar.. Louisville hasn’t won 10 games since joining the ACC. Virginia Tech would have been a better option in my opinion.
When you schedule a team so far out you dont always know what you’re getting… Look at Bama vs FSU
.
Oh I know but scheduling Louisville versus FSU is completely different. One is a blueblood going through a rough patch and the other was barely a power 5 team..
Yet Louisville is probably going to finish the season no worse off than what FSU did..
What does that have to do with anything?
I just said FSU was going through a rough patch. I’m not blaming bama for scheduling FSU but Bama should never schedule Louisville..
It wouldnt matter who Alabama scheduled it would still be criticized. ACC is still a power 5 conference, it’s not like we open up with a FBS team. We scheduled Duke, who knows if they will be good when we play them. This is why Nick was the only SEC coach to vote to schedule only Power 5. So any other fanbase criticizing it…contact your teams Athletic director and tell them to hop aboard.
I’m all for playing all power 5 teams. Don’t have a problem with the Duke or Louisville game but they aren’t seen as “good” teams. That is why people criticize them..
Play uga?? How about this year, uga LOST 26-23, how about 2015 uga LOST 38-10, how about the blackout 2008 uga LOST 41-30. Serious dude? Bama owns uga just as it does lsu. Silly comment.
lol you comparing different years with different players and different coaches. you know if we play and thats a big if(if yall can make it to the SECCG with us highly doubt with LSU on yalls schedule) yall make it to the SEC championship game…
LSU is on Bama schedule every year…. They’re on UGAs schedule this year…..
Had UGA voted to extend schedule to 9 sec games and power 5 only, you would have gotten your wish of scheduling Georgia. The only coach to vote yes…Nick Saban.
Everyone complains about the schedules, yet these are often done years in advance. We play the same Western Sec teams as everyone else in our division. We have no way to know if the programs are going to be trending up or down. What team doesn’t have cupcakes scheduled?? We can nitpick each other to death, but we’re all pretty much in the same boat, when it comes to schedules.
You can tell yourself that, but Bama choose Louisville and Duke as their marquee nonconference games for back to back seasons. Neither has ever been very good. Nobody else in the conference demands to play Tennessee every year, and they have sucked for the last 10. No matter who is at fault, the home schedule simply isn’t very good.
What are you talking about. Louisville has ended the season a top 15 team twice in the last 6 or 7 years and most of the other years been in the top 25 at the end of the year. Louisville was better than Miami was when Alabama and LSU scheduled them both years ago.
Louisville at their best was beaten by an average Kentucky team and blown out by LSU in a bowl game. People are only going to get excited about an Alabama game when it is at least a name opponent with some history.
Context is everything my friend.. Since 2010 (8 football seasons) Louisville has finished NON-Ranked in 4 of those years. They did finish #13 in 2012 when they were in the Big East and #15 in 2013 when they were in the American Athletic Conference.. neither one of those are power 5 conferences and Louisville has not been a great program.
Ok, what about Bama kicking lsu’s @$$ the last 6 times in a row?!?!? So if Bama does schedule tougher opponents it certainly needs to be tougher than lsu which Bama owns. And since you have advice for Bama, I have some advice for lsu….PS: Don’t schedule Troy again which is in Alabama…remember 2017: 24-21…Troy had 24.
I see you got your feeling hurt. As BT would say, tissue?
Every west team has their staple cross division rival, LSU (Florida), auburn (UGA), Arkansas (Mizzou), MSU (UK), Bama (UT). When everyone other west team changes their rival I guess Bama will. But I’m pretty sure neither fan base wants to see that change, regardless that it’s been lopsided for the past 10+ years. Bama-UT is tradition and dates back and has been fairly competitive throughout the years. Although the last couple decades one team owned the other. I for one will not be willing to give up the Bama rivalry even though we will get demolished this year! So LSU fan, do you want to give up Florida for UGA or Vandy?
They want Vandy…
Vandy would put LSU on par with Bama for the East scheduling, but we are still fine playing UF. LSU has wanted to do with the permanent foe from the East for some time. We don’t have much support in that.
If Tennessee loses cross-division rival Bama, we lose tradition, as does Bama. If (cautiously optimistic) Tennessee reforms and becomes good again, will the tune of your song change? Probably. If Florida is in the cellar do you want me to call out LSU for scheduling them? It’s a history of tradition for all programs, do you genuinely believe all programs will maintain a continuity of success? What was LSU before Saban arrived? Weren’t y’all kind of a 90s doormat, West Vandy?
Bama has wanted to add another conference game for some time now… They dont have much support in that….
Arkvol… Yes LSU was garbage in the 90s. UF hasn’t done much since meyer left so they don’t really have much to hang onto anymore with their cross divison rival.
I’d like the hogs to go back to south Carolina as cross divisional game.
I like the rivalry. Bama tenn should never be cancelled. And even if fla-lsu is relatively new, rivalries have to start somewhere. One day when my kids ask why i hate florida, ill tell them that the fanbase is obnoxious and disrespectful. About when les converted 5 4th downs. How they had mike VI effigies in nooses after our mascot died of cancer. How we gave them the game after the hurricane debacle. Its fun. It doesn’t have to be yale-harvard or even the iron bowl. Again, rivalries have to start somewhere. 9 conf games is the answer. Bc you should def never go a 4 year career without playing every team in the conf at least once.
Besides. If anything should change we should just reverse the addition of aTm and mizzou. Gross.
Stuff like this is why playing at Bryant-Denny is nbd. We had better student attendance/participation in 2006 when we went 6-7 or whatever. The stadium has not had hype since 2011. Students don’t come because they are spoiled, and the rest of the stadium acts like a retirement home. The last time I was impressed with the noise/environment was the iron bowl 2010 season when we were playing spoiler and trying to wreck AU’s season. If we’re being real, UGA, LSU, AU all create most hostile places to play and have better fan/student participation. Visit those places and tell me otherwise. I know it’s hard to get pumped about wearing teams out by 50+, but we have to do something.
When you had to sit through seasons like 03-07, and weren’t spoiled; you appreciate every chance to watch the team play and win. Now it’s like: “if we win, were supposed to Win and no one cares, but if we lose, everyone’s mad and it’s the worst thing in the world.”
Tiger stadium is slacking here lately too. I was there from 10-14 and dont remember bad crowds, even in 11 when we were shilacking everyone. Unfortunately, after i left they seemed less interested… i was watching a 1 loss lsu team down at halftime maybe 14 to arkansas… and fans were LEAVING! Unbelievable
At the end of the day Bama who Bama played isn’t going to help the next team on Bama’s schedule. We heard ole Miss was going to test Bama and they didnt. We heard what a challenge TAMU was since they almost beat Clemson yet Bama rolled them
At the end of the day Bama will play LSU and Auburn. If Bama wins it’s because those teams obviously were propped up by wins over overrated teams making them overrated or that will at least be the noise… Nothing is new when it comes to scheduling and this doesn’t only apply to Bama….
Fake news / picures from the peanut gallery.
To RTR2011. Your thoughts on my post are 150% totally irrelevant to me. I posted my thoughts on another post which I will continue to do. So you wasted time and effort supporting your lsu fan and being the blog police. LOL!
To: ILoveMyDawgs: Dude REALLY!!! Bama has defeated lsu 6 straight times. But you are right in the respect uga will be there for sure playing the teams in the SEC east. Cake walk!
