Recruiting is one of the most followed college football topics in the offseason. Every school’s fanbase wants to see the nation’s blue-chip players commit to spend three or more years on campus at their school.

If that blue-chip stud lives up to his billing and is properly developed, the NFL may be in his future. Very few coaching staffs are able to sign highly rated recruits and get the most out of those recruits in college while developing them into future NFL Draft picks. In what will likely come as a surprise to few SEC fans, Alabama is truly in a league of its own when it comes to producing high draft picks and getting the most out of them at the college level.

NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt recently looked at the schools that produce the most top-10 draft picks and how often those schools finish in the Associated Press top 10 final rankings over the last 10 years. Alabama led with both the most top-10 picks (9) and most top-10 AP poll finishes (9). LSU was close in top-10 picks with seven, but far behind in top-10 finishes with only two. Georgia finished in a three-way tie at No. 5 for four top-10 picks, but only two top-10 finishes.

Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes were the closest in challenging Alabama in top-10 finishes with eight, but did so without nearly as many top-10 picks over the years.
