Mac Jones had a strong rookie season, and now he gets to cap it with a trip to the Pro Bowl.

Jones was named to the 2022 Pro Bowl on Sunday as some of the AFC’s quarterbacks opted out of playing in the NFL’s All-Star game, set to take place in Las Vegas this Sunday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. ET. The Patriots did not announce which player he would replace in the all-star game.

Jones, who was selected 15th overall out of Alabama, won the starting job over Cam Newton in training camp and led the New England back to the playoffs with a 10-7 record.

Jones threw 22 touchdowns to 13 interceptions while he completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,801 passing yards, as he was a key piece in helping Bill Belichick reset a large chunk of the roster with a collection of talented free agents and rookies that contributed right away.

Jones fills in after several of the top AFC quarterbacks chose not to play, or were injured. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert, and Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson were the original selections for the team. Jackson suffered an ankle injury down the stretch and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills said this week that he would not go to the game as an alternate. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow would have been another replacement choice, but he’s heading to the Super Bowl after Sunday’s win.
