Mark Ingram torches Alabama defense after 'comical' loss to Vanderbilt
Mark Ingram isn’t holding back on his alma mater after the stunning loss at Vanderbilt in Week 6.
Ingram, the first Heisman Trophy winner in Alabama history, is a college football analyst on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff and The Triple Option podcast. He shared some thoughts on Wednesday.
“It’s actually quite comical,” Ingram said on the latest Triple Option. “You just go and just get smacked by Vandy. I’m like is this even real life? Like what’s happening? We go on the road, we just can’t do anything. No matter how you slice this cake, it’s atrocious.”
Though Alabama and Vanderbilt are not regular opponents, Ingram and many other members of the UA faithful were stunned by the Crimson Tide’s first loss to the Commodores in 40 years. Ingram took aim at Alabama’s defensive issues.
“The defense is just completely unprepared for this. Run it down your throat and make you like it. Come on, now. (Vanderbilt) had 9 possessions. They only punted the ball twice,” Ingram said.
It has been an ugly 6 quarters for the Alabama defense. UA had a 30-7 lead over Georgia at halftime. The Bulldogs charged back to take 34-33 with 2:31 to go in the 4th quarter. Jalen Milroe’s touchdown to Ryan Williams prompted one more lead change, and Alabama held on for a 41-34 victory.
“Bama’s defense is in crisis mode right now,” Ingram said. “The last 6 quarters: 67 points, 784 yards, opponents are converting third downs at a 54% rate. They’ve allowed 10 20-yard plays. Like you thought that the second half of the Georgia thing might have just been Georgia, but no, that’s truly who the defense is right now.”
Alabama looks to get things turned on around defense at home against South Carolina on Saturday.

1998.
Georgia fans haven’t been so mad since last week, the SEC championship last year, and when Georgia cops started locking you up for killing teammates and beating pregnant women.
Record versus Bama?
How many other teams will look for wrinkles to take advantage of how porous the Alabama defense has been?
Them Dawgs need to go watch the game they just lost in T Town, and Vols jokes need to go watch what happened at Fayetteville, and then shut up.
