Well, this will add a little fuel to the rivalry.

New Alabama linebacker commit, LB Markail Benton, chose the Crimson Tide over Auburn and Florida State Friday. Benton is the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Alabama, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

AL.com was onsite for his announcement and took away some very interesting quotes from Benton, who explained that coaching was a primary reason he committed to the Crimson Tide over the Tigers.

“When I took the visit to Alabama the last time I had a great time at the camp,” Benton said. “They have great coaches, great facilities. You can’t get better coaching at Alabama with Coach (Nick) Saban.

“Auburn’s a great school, don’t get me wrong,” Benton told AL.com. “They have a great facility too, and it’s like 30 minutes up the road so I would take a visit to Auburn every weekend. But I mean, Alabama’s got better coaching.”

Obviously, coaching stability is a major factor in recruits’ and parents’ minds. In the “what have you done for me lately” landscape that college football coaches find themselves in, sometimes extensions and votes of confidence by athletic directors get lost in the conversation.

I’m sure Benton knows a lot about the rivalry, living in Alabama, but with comments like these, he could unfortunately learn the negative side to such a heated rivalry.

Nonetheless, Benton is a big-time linebacker, and he’ll get a solid dose of the Iron Bowl rivalry soon enough.
