One of the most challenging aspects of Alabama’s 2016 season is the road schedule. The team faces one of the more difficult gauntlets in the SEC. So, which of the four SEC road games is most likely to receive a lot of attention? Truth be told, probably all of them. Let’s rank the four from most hyped to most forgotten:

No. 1: AT LSU, NOV. 5

Remember back in 2011 when ESPN tried to call this “The Game of the Century”? Given the final score of 9-6, it wasn’t exactly the game that organizers had envisioned. It was a gritty defensive showdown that required overtime and yet, last season’s national championship match that pitted Alabama and Clemson was a far more exciting game. Alabama has defeated LSU five times since that aforementioned 2011 game, four during the regular season. The only contest of those four that wasn’t decided in the fourth quarter was last season’s meeting. While the 2013 game was dominated by Alabama, the Tide only led 24-17 entering the final period. The last time the two teams played in Baton Rouge, Alabama needed a field goal in the closing seconds to force overtime and go on for the win. When looking at the schedule, the SEC has a weak slate on Nov. 5, so Alabama going into the hostile Death Valley atmosphere against LSU should easily be on center stage. In fact, it will likely be one of the most anticipated games of the season.

No. 2: AT OLE MISS, SEPT. 17

This was a tough call. If everything were to fall perfectly in place, this spot could easily belong to Tennessee. Ponder this: What if Alabama loses to Ole Miss for a third straight year? What if Tennessee loses to Florida for a 12th straight year? What if Tennessee can’t take care of business against Georgia? Suddenly, that game looks a lot less interesting. So, Ole Miss is the more intriguing game on the onset. Sept. 17 is the first full SEC slate of the season. LSU should have no problem taking care of Mississippi State. If Georgia underwhelms, it might face a test against Missouri. The only other intriguing game is Texas A&M at Auburn. However, a game featuring the defending SEC champs against the only team to have beaten them the past two seasons easily makes this the SEC game of the week. The Alabama quarterback position will already be under the microscope, especially since Jacob Coker rose to become the unquestioned starter following last season’s loss. Expect Alabama to focus heavily on turnovers as committing five last season was a big reason the team lost the game.

No. 3: AT TENNESSEE, OCT. 15

Historically, this is a bigger rivalry game than Ole Miss. Yes, it could be more hyped if both teams enter the game undefeated. With Florida’s defense and past dominance of the Volunteers, plus Alabama’s recent struggles with Ole Miss, it simply isn’t a safe bet. The SEC game of the week might even wind up being Ole Miss at Arkansas. During the last five seasons, the game has been decided by 10 points or fewer four times. The lone exception was a 30-0 Arkansas upset victory in 2014. Last season’s game was one of the most entertaining games of the season and certainly featured one of the wildest finishes. With all of that in mind, the Alabama-Tennessee game has plenty of reasons to watch. At the forefront is Tennessee’s impressive offense against Alabama’s stifling defense.

No. 4: AT ARKANSAS, OCT. 8

This isn’t to undersell Arkansas, but the Razorbacks simply aren’t an opponent worthy of excitement at this point. They are coming off a strong 8-5 season, and they played Alabama extremely tight the last time the team made the trip to Fayetteville. Alabama squeaked out a physical 14-13 win. However, the two teams just don’t have the same history shared as Alabama-LSU or Arkansas-Texas A&M. Also, LSU traveling to The Swamp to take on one of the SEC’s better defenses should easily surpass this game as the SEC game of the week.
