When you think of workhorses in the SEC, Alabama RB Derrick Henry, the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner, immediately comes to mind.

There was nobody better at carrying the rock than the 6-foot-3, 242-pound bruiser. He led the nation with 395 rushing attempts in 2015. That’s slightly more than 26 carries per game this season. Henry also led the country in rushing yards (2,219) and rushing touchdowns (28).

Amazingly enough Henry carried a combined 90 times against Auburn and Florida. Those were the two top single-game rushing attempts in the SEC this season. Although nearly completely dominated by Henry, here’s a closer look at the five top single-game rushing attempts in the SEC this season:

  1. Derrick Henry (46) – It was nothing short of amazing that Henry rushed a whopping 46 times, for a career-high 271 yards (5.9 yards per carry average) in carrying the Tide past Auburn, 29-13, in the Iron Bowl. He carried 18 times for 95 yards in the fourth quarter alone, wearing down the Auburn defense while improving on a 19-13 lead.
  1. Derrick Henry (44) – The Iron Man followed up that performance with 44 carries the following week in the Tide’s 29-15 win over Florida in the SEC Championship Game. He carried seven times in a key first-half drive that resulted in a field goal, answering Florida’s punt return for a touchdown. His second-quarter touchdown run gave Alabama the lead for good.
  1. Derrick Henry (38) – This was the game in which Henry rose to the forefront as the Heisman Trophy leader. He carried 38 times for 210 yards and three touchdowns in Alabama’s 30-16 victory over LSU. He carried seven times in a key third-quarter drive, including a 7-yard touchdown run – his second of the quarter – as the Tide began to pull away. His 10 carries (78 yards) in Alabama’s final drive helped to kill the clock.
  1. Peyton Barber (37) – The only player on this list not named Henry, Barber ran 37 times for 120 yards and four touchdowns, but Auburn fell in four overtimes, 54-46, at Arkansas. Barber scored Auburn’s first touchdown in the final minute of the first half, cutting Arkansas’ lead to 14-7 at halftime. But that was before the second-half fireworks. The teams tied at 24 after regulation play and Barber scored on short touchdown runs in each of the first three overtime periods.
  1. Derrick Henry (36) – Rounding out this list, and the 2015 season in style, Henry rushed 36 times for 158 yards and three touchdowns as Alabama outlasted Clemson, 45-40, in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. His 50-yard touchdown run to open the scoring electrified the crowd and signified what was to come from the nation’s top running back in 2015. He punctuated that statement with five carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.
