Lane Kiffin was formally introduced as Florida Atlantic’s new head coach on Tuesday, and now the details of his contract are out.

The FAU salary is a notable pay cut for Kiffin, who made $1.4 million this past season as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. It’s presumed that Kiffin’s salary would have remained seven figures had he taken the offensive coordinator position at LSU. Kiffin stated Tuesday that he would have returned to Alabama had he not taken the FAU job, despite his contract not being renewed for the 2017 season.

A report published Monday by USA Today’s Dan Wolken said that Kiffin felt a sense of urgency to get back to being a head coach, and that despite frequently being linked to jobs in the coaching carousel rumor mill, offers were simply not coming his way. At FAU, he gets to show that he can properly represent a team and school as a head coach.
