Alabama dropped its regular-season finale at LSU 80-77 in overtime. The Tide had the ball down 78-77 with just seconds left, but didn’t take notice of the time on the shot clock, turning it over to the Tigers.

In his postgame press conference, UA head coach Nate Oats said it was on him to make sure everyone knew the situation.

“One of my assistants said they had eye contact with both players involved, JQ (Jahvon Quinerly) and JD (Davison) and let them know,” Oats said. “But JD said he didn’t know. That’s on me. As the head coach, I’ve got to make sure to look every guy in the eye and tell them myself. There’s 4 seconds on the clock. JD said he did not know. That’s on us. I thought everybody was aware. And that was a big play. If he shoots that, I’d much rather live with a missed three when we’re down late than us having to foul after we turn it over on a shot-clock violation.”

Alabama will next play in the 2022 SEC Tournament on Thursday.
