It’s safe to say the Tennessee Titans did their due diligence before trading for Julio Jones.

That included Titans coach Mike Vrabel reaching out to Nick Saban for input on the type of person Jones is and what it’s like to coach the star receiver.

Tennessee clearly liked what they heard from the Alabama coach.

“The ability to call (Saban) and ask him about the situation about adding a player that he coached was something that I was able to do,” Vrabel recently said when discussing the Jones trade.

Aside from being one of the NFL’s best receivers, it sounds like the Titans were sold on Jones after learning what kind of person Jones is off the field.

“Coach Saban obviously thinks a great deal about Julio as a person,” Vrabel added during his media availability.

Following those conversations, Tennessee traded a 2022 2nd round draft pick and a 2023 4th round draft pick in exchange for Jones and a 6th round selection in the 2023 draft.
