So much for seeing Tua Tagovailoa in the A-Day game.

Nick Saban was asked about the status of his injured quarterback during an appearance at a fundraiser in Mobile and he snapped back that Tagovailoa had already been declared out for the remainder of the spring.

“I’ve already said what his status is, I said he was out the other day. He re-injured his hand and we are going to hold him out the rest of the spring. So, that hasn’t changed,” Saban explained in a video posted to YouTube by AL.com.

Tagovailoa first injured his hand during the first day of spring camp in Tuscaloosa. He managed to return to practice on a limited basis almost immediately, following a visit to a local hospital, but suffered a setback in his rehab this spring. He recently shared a photo of his hand in a cast. The rising sophomore was spotted again at a recent practice as a limited participant.

Based on this exchange, fans won’t be treated to much of an exhibition when it comes to the ongoing quarterback competition in Tuscaloosa but, on the bright side, perhaps this development will provide more reps for the program’s youngest QB this weekend, Mac Jones.

RELATEDIt’s not how he drew it up, but Nick Saban probably doesn’t mind how Alabama’s QB battle is unfolding
