Nick Saban and the rest of the SEC coaches and leaders are getting set to gather in Destin, Florida for the SEC spring meetings on May 30.

Saban spoke with reporters on Tuesday at his annual “Nick’s Kids” charity golf tournament to update issues related to Alabama and college football.

Asked about some of the issues he’d like to bring up in Destin, Saban said everyone is concerned about the “state of college football” and how to put parameters on things like the transfer portal and name, image and likeness. Saban reiterated that it’s great that players can earn money through NIL, but leaders should careful about avoiding a pay-for-play format.

“Can create a competitive advantage or disadvantage for certain schools,” he said. “It’s not the same for everybody, which is one thing we’ve always tried to make college football that. We’re still trying to emphasize the fact that you go to college to create value for your future and developing as a person and a student, developing a career off the field, developing a career on the field still are the things that are most valuable for the future. And those are the things we try to emphasize in our program so people want to still become a part of it.”

Asked about having 5 quarterbacks on the roster, Saban said the Tide would have to be well-organized to distribute reps. But he hopes the competition will make everyone better.
