Nick Saban comments on lackluster Alabama effort in narrow win over LSU

Published:
Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide had their hands full with the LSU Tigers on Saturday night, holding on for a narrow 20-14 victory.
The Tide didn’t look like the No. 2 team in the country, but fortunately for them, no one else really stepped up and looked poised to take over that spot.
After the game, Saban had plenty to say about his team in the narrow victory. Here’s some of what he said in his postgame press conference:
On the defensive effort from the Tide:
Saban: "There's lot of places on the team where we weren't quite up to snuff. But defensively … I think was really, really good."

On no easy wins in the SEC:
Saban: "I know that sometimes we have an expectation that we're going to win easy, but sometimes, it's not so easy. I think it's difficult to win in this conference."

On making plays when they were needed:
Nick Saban: "That was a great win for our team. We were in a lot of tough, competitive situations, and guys responded well, made plays when we needed to make them, especially on defense."

On a couple of injuries suffered by Tide players during the game:
Nick Saban said Darrian Dalcourt suffered a sprained ankle. He's not sure how serious it is. Saban also said Jalyn Armour-Davis was hit in the ribs, and X-rays were negative.

On the outstanding pass rushers:
Saban on Will Anderson and Dallas Turner: "I think those guys did an outstanding job."
The outside 'backers combined for 17 tackles, 6 TFLs and 3.5 sacks.

Alabama will likely remain in the No. 2 spot moving forward. We’ll see if they can look dominant again next weekend.
