Nick Saban met with reporters Wednesday during the SEC’s weekly teleconference. While speaking to media, Saban mentioned defensive lineman Jaheim Oatis and went into some detail about his impact on the Crimson Tide defense.
Oatis has not had an elite start to the year, but he’s been a presence in the Alabama defensive front. Across 3 games (he missed action against USF) Oatis has totaled 8 tackles with a pass deflection.
Saban insists his great attitude and hard work in practice is something that stands out about Oatis, noting that he’s become a better pass rusher from his freshman to sophomore season.
“He’s a good player, he’s played very well for us,” Saban said. “Got a great attitude, he works hard in practice. He’s become a better pass rusher. We played him at nose last year and this year we’re playing him more at 3, 4 and 5 technique and he’s adapted well to it and done extremely well.”
The Tide defense has been good this season despite recent struggles. It’s obvious that Alabama can improve majorly in certain areas, but the Tide should be playing with more confidence after downing Ole Miss last week.
Mississippi State and a trip to Starkville are on the docket for this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. on ESPN.
