Nick Saban explains why he didn’t talk much to Kyle Shanahan or Bill Belichick during Alabama’s Pro Day

During Alabama’s recent Pro Day, many NFL coaches and scouts were in attendance to get an early look at top Crimson Tide prospects, including QB Mac Jones.
But, coaches like Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers (who hold the No. 3 overall pick) and Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots were seemingly unable to speak much with Alabama coach Nick Saban.
During an appearance on the “Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday, Saban said Shanahan didn’t ask him about Jones. Saban thinks it might have something to do with NFL rules about Pro Days (via AL.com):
“He didn’t ask me a thing,” Saban said. “I said hi to him, John Lynch too. They did not ask anything about him. Maybe they thought they weren’t allowed to because on the Pro Day floor, which is where I saw them, I think they — I don’t know all their rules but I think their rule is they aren’t really allowed to talk to me.
“So I stood by Belichick. We didn’t really talk but I don’t know what their rules are and I don’t know the reason for what some of their rules are but it is what it is.”
Jones has been rocketing up draft boards lately. Will he end up in San Francisco, New England, or somewhere else? We’ll find out at the end of the month!
