Nick Saban gets roasted for playing Jermaine Burton after post-game incident at Tennessee
By Keith Farner
Published:
Nick Saban was criticized in the first half of Alabama’s game with Mississippi State after Jermaine Burton caught his first pass, a 23-yarder.
Burton last week was caught on video allegedly striking a woman who rushed the field at Tennessee after the Vols knocked off Alabama. Saban released a statement during the week, and said, “We are aware of the situation with Jermaine Burton as he was exiting the field Saturday. We are currently working to gather more information,” Saban said.
ESPN’s Chris Fowler addressed the issue during the broadcast and added that Burton is working with anger-management counselors and Saban hopes Burton will learn to control his emotions better. Fowler cited Burton’s retaliation penalty against Texas A&M in addition to the post-Tennessee incident.
Here’s a sampling of the criticism:
Lmao Jermaine burton actually playing in this game right now

I’m sure Jermaine Burton is a model student and perfect role model but don’t give me that shit about being afraid for your life as a reason for punching a woman.

Told people we’d learn a lot about Nick Saban this week, based on how he handled the Jermaine Burton situation. I’m surprised by his response, but even more surprised to hear @KirkHerbstreit and @cbfowler defending the actions of this athlete striking a female. Not a good look.

You can’t excuse Jermaine Burton’s actions after the Tennessee game as something that happened because fans rushed the field.
We’ve seen the video, guys. It was a woman who was not threatening him at all, and he went out of his way to do it.
Not saying jail him. But come on.

Nice to know that “internal discipline” for Bama’s Jermaine Burton hitting a girl in the face after the Tennessee game is him playing in the very next game. SMH.

ESPN’s Chris Fowler says Alabama has Jermaine Burton working with anger-management counselors and Nick Saban hopes Burton will learn to control his emotions better. Fowler cited Burton’s retaliation penalty against Texas A&M in addition to the post-Tennessee incident.

Cousin Shane said they probably took away Jermaine Burton’s Charger for a week

Really surprised Jermaine Burton is playing in this game.
I’m sure Saban will say he was disciplined in some way, but the only punishment that really hurts is taking games away. Sure, running stadium steps at 5:30 am sucks, but that’s a minor inconvenience for an elite athlete.

Still cannot believe Nick Saban and @AlabamaFTBL let Jermaine Burton play this game and get away with hitting a female.. what does this teach. Regardless of TN fans storming the field. You still respect a woman and keep your hands off of them. #disappointed

Is Nick Saban going to suspend Jermaine Burton for hitting that Tennessee girl he said it was going to be handled internally
