Alabama and coach Nick Saban have one of the toughest Week 1 matchups in college football, as they meet Florida State and coach Jimbo Fisher in Atlanta.

Ahead of what is sure to be one of the best games of opening weekend, though, the two star coaches have managed to maintain their friendship, which dates back to when Fisher was Saban’s offensive coordinator at LSU.

However, according to the Tampa Bay Times, Fisher said when the old friends do speak these days, they generally avoid talking about the season-opener:

“We’re not big talkers in that way, but we talk,” Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said. “We have a great time together. We can talk on the phone.

“We ain’t telling each other what we’re doing. But all you’ve got to do is watch the film. You can see. (When) it’s time to compete, we’ll compete against them, but that won’t change any relationship you have.”

Alabama will likely open the season as the No. 1 team in the country, but the Seminoles will probably be a top-five squad, too.

Though the Week 1 matchup is sure to be a hotly contested affair on the field, Saban and Fisher will remain close off the field.
