Coaching website predicts Nick Saban will leave Alabama after this season
FootballScoop.com is one of the nation’s premier coaching websites. The site always has inside scoops when the coaching carousel starts spinning ever so quickly.
In a recent article predicting the biggest coaching surprises of 2015, Scott Roussel predicts that Nick Saban won’t be coaching at Alabama in 2016. Roussel obviously has connections throughout the coaching industry, and perhaps this isn’t just wild speculation.
“I can’t support it by reportable facts, and of course there is no pressure from the administration; but from folks in the profession, I keep hearing “Nick isn’t happy,” “Nick seems miserable,” “Nick is very frustrated,” and I can foresee the very real possibility that Nick pulls the rip cord and ejects from Tuscaloosa after this season. Where that parachute will land, well, that has to play out, but I don’t suspect T-Town will be Nick’s final coaching stop.”
That’s a hell of a bold prediction, huh?
2015 is Saban’s ninth year at Alabama. He’s won three national championships, three SEC championships and five SEC West crowns with the Crimson Tide.
It’s been widely reported that Texas came hard after Saban, and the Longhorns certainly gave him something to think about.
Saban’s contract, made official in June 2014, was extended from 2020 to January 31, 2022. Saban will be paid $6.5 million per year with a $400,000 completion bonus.
When Saban was hired, all the haters out there stated with hesitation that he was a gun for hire. That he wouldn’t be in Tuscaloosa for four full seasons. Well, this is his ninth season. And both he and Mrs. Saban have stated many times that they don’t want to leave. She loves living in the south, especially in Tuscaloosa.
Now it is possible that he will change his mind and decide to go elsewhere even after the many times he said this was his final stop before retirement. But if he does, good for him. He is getting up there in years and would probably like to have some time to spend with his wife, kids, and grand kids. But all of what is said above came from what I deem a “click bait” article.
I love football as much as anyone and even have a NC ring from playing in college. But there are greater and far more important things in life than football. If he does decide to leave Tuscaloosa, I’ll wish him all the luck in the world.
SDS must really be hurting for page visits with all the crap you’ve been printing lately.
Well SDS is just reporting what someone else said without any proof or substantiation. I agree though that I dont see Saban leaving Alabama, after all if Momma is happy, he is happy. The only reason I could see Saban leaving is either retirement or the administration of the school becomes hostile and wants him out and I really do not see that happening. If you look at the history of the SEC very few coaches ever willingly leave before its time to move on, Spurrier had hit the ceiling and was frustrated with the fan base at Florida. Saban and Spurrier both felt driven to try their hand at the pro’s found out it wasnt for them and now are quite happy where they are.
Congrats on your ring – not many people can sport one of those. Since you brought it up, do you mind sharing when/where you played? Congrats again – I really do mean that.
You’re right, I was one of those people who said Nick Saban would be four years and gone. I was very very wrong. I have no idea if he’ll be gone at the end of the season. However, what I do believe, and my Auburn brothers and sisters need to understand this: Even if Nick Saban leaves, there will not be some meltdown, implosion, or shattering of the program in Tuscaloosa. Saban is very good at coaching, and building programs, and he’s done both very well at Alabama. I’d imagine if he leaves Kirby Smart will take over as HC (even though it’d be his first Head Coaching experience). Smart knows the program, is a Saban protege, and will have everything in place to be successful. That being said, the biggest compliment I can give Nick Saban is that it will be a holiday for me the day he steps down as the Head Coach at Alabama.
Good thing that Lane Kiffin is on the coaching staff. They’ll have to promote him to head coach if Saban leaves haha..
All things considered, Kiffin has been pretty successful as OC at Alabama. So of course, he wouldn’t get promoted to head coach. Kiffin is a “failing upwards” kind of guy. He’d have to fail before he got hired into a better position.
Kiffin has been one of those WTF? stories. He needs to go to Eastern Washington as head Coach next then come back and replace McElwain at Florida to make the story complete, then beat Tennessee for 10 straight years as well as studying the SOS method of button pushing and poor mouthing.
Wouldn’t Kirby Smart be the new HC? That would make much more sense.
Man, if Saban leaves and Muffin and Kirby Smart stays, that would be like the equivalent of Malzahn/Muschamp. I wouldn’t mind that AU and UA matchup every year at all. Of course there is a negative 3% chance that happens…if anything Kirby Smart becomes HC. Savannah ain’t going anywhere anyway so none of this matters lol.
Kiffin*
Saban*….smh. disabling auto correct…
There have been reporters, many very respected, who have predicted Saban will leave Alabama every year. Some have even vowed they had very reliable sources. Many are the same reporters who predicted Saban would never leave Miami to go to Alabama in the first place.
There is a significant number of reporters who hate Saban for a variety of reasons. Because he of the way he left Miami, his abrasiveness, his tight control of his program and those allowed to speak for it, his confrontational attitude toward reporters who are always looking for the negative story and his total concentration on the next game are among the things that have always rankled sports writers and broadcasters.
There are also those in the media who cant stand that Saban revitalized a struggling Crimson Tide program. Many of them had boldly predicted that the problems at UA since the retirement and death of Paul Bryant were signs that the once proud program was crumbling and would not be a dangerous power in the foreseeable future, if ever again.
Every year the ‘Saban is leaving’ stories pop up at the beginning of the season and again near Recruit Signing Day. They give Saban is unhappy, Saban is anxious, Saban is frustrated as always the same reasons. Hmmm! One day they will be right. If you keep predicting something long enough it will eventually happen. But I’m sure it will be on Saban’s timetable.
I have a feeling that a certain group of reporters have it on thie rradar to just write crap about a certain group of coaches every year just to keep the readership clicking and enraged.
It’s tough being Saban. Even Chuck Norris turned down the role. :-)
The trillionth ‘Nick Saban is leaving’ story… *yawn*
Spurrier has that # beat.
Saban is wearing out. He has had a great run at Bama but I think he is about ready to leave. He is tired and ready to go.
Oh, he is? You talked to him personally? Lol
The same BS from a bunch of low lifers!
And mark richt was retiring after the bowl game this past year. smh
LOL! Seems like every year people want to fire Mark. They want to trade him out for 2 more wins a year. Go ahead and do that. You might trade for 5 more loses a year!
What Major D-I Football Coaching Job is not frustrating? When are you not under pressure. What coach that is brought in is just expected to field a mediocre team? You are hired because they want you have a successful program. If Saban leaves he leaves. 3 titles at Bama isn’t enough? Thank him for what he has done for the university and move on. Saban doesn’t owe Alabama anything. He’s done it all.
RTR!
I haven’t lived in Alabama since I graduated from Auburn in 1985. I grew up about 30 miles from Tuscaloosa also. About three weeks ago, I was in my hometown to visit my aunt. While there, I met some cousins for lunch at the City Cafe in Northport. I took that opportunity to drive around Tuscaloosa bit. I still remember where Sears and McDonald’s was located in the 60’s and 70’s.
Since I’m only a few years from retirement, we’ve been thinking about where we’d like to retire. I’ve lived in Phoenix AZ longer than my 18 years lived in Alabama. We were toying with the idea of Tuscaloosa but after my last visit, I don’t see that happening. Tuscaloosa isn’t the most desireable of towns and the crime rate is too high for my comfort. I love Alabama’s campus – truly beautiful – and I’m sure we could make ourselves happy there but when you add in the state’s budget issues and the lack of support for schools, there’s no way that we can consider Alabama.
What’s my point? *If* the Coach and his wife aren’t happy there, my guess is that it’s due to the same issues I’ve noted. There are better places to live and retire and if you have a choice, why not take it? If they are happy there, God bless them – they’ve given a lot to charities in the area and clearly, the locals love them. Not a bad combination.
Pops, Alabama east and south of mobile ain’t a bad spot to finish.
Who cares…
SAME OLD BS FROM WRITERS. THEY DON’T KNOW HOW TO WRITE ABOUT SPORTS. SO THEY WRITE THE SAME CRAP YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT.
Yes – this is another click bait story. I would not be surprised if Saban decided to retire in the next year or two. What else does he have to prove and how many more million dollars does he need/want? I think I would retire and enjoy some of the spoils of my career. Oh wait, I did!
On a related note, I understand that when he does retire, he wants to get far away from major college football, so he is considering moving to Baton Rouge.
Lol
Hope he likes corn dogs.
You can tell he’s not very happy. I brought this up in a post several weeks ago, and some Bammer jumped down my throat about it. The pressures of being Alabama’s head coach are incredible. It’s that “national championship or bust” mentality. Saban gets pissed off at the media for every little thing. Now he’s making excuses for not winning the natty last year, putting it on the players. That’s not like him, even if it’s true. It’s possible that he’s just got a case of burnout, and he could be looking for something else to do. I wouldn’t worry too much if, God forbid, I was a Bammer. There are other good coaches out there, and Bama has an extremely solid foundation as a football program. And now that the NCAA is almost impotent, they don’t have to worry too much about getting busted.
Maybe he should go back to LSU where all they expect is that you win 8 games a year. Well that, and beat Mc Neese St.
ridiculous
I agree, it’s hard to imagine he’ll survive the uga game! LOL! :D
Every year the talking heads do this. Do you people have nothing better to do then make BS up? I get so sick of hearing this every fall. Sabans leaving, Sabans leaving. Shut up, you don’t know anything. You’re just some jealous fan of a team Bama whooped up on. Why would Saban leave now? If he was going to go it would have been when Texas gave him a blank check and said fill in the blank. So he’s going to wait until he’s cooled off a little as a hot commodity? Yeah that makes a lot of sense.
Why would he ever want to leave there? He will be there until he is ready to call it quits.
Seriously. He’s got a machine…a football factory… that competes for a national championship every year. He’s worked his whole life to get to where he is now. Why would he leave other than to retire? It’s nonsense to even let the idea enter your brain.
I find the story hard to believe, but one never knows the “back story” with any coach. Like Kentucky basketball, Alabama football is the crème de le crème; there is nowhere to go but down, IMO. The only reason he’d leave ‘Bama is to retire, again, IMO.
Nick ain’t goin’ nowhere. Incest has a way of growing on you.
Being an lsu fan, you WOULD know.
If he leaves, you will have proof that the 85% can be obnoxious enough to make someone walk away from almost SEVEN MILLION dollars. That, my friends, is pretty darned obnoxious.
“IF” =”you will have proof”. Well that’s it , another official prediction from SEC truth
