Nick Saban couldn’t believe it, and unleashed one of his patented sideline tirades.

Alabama finally got a stop against Tennessee’s offense, and after what appeared to be a sub-par punt from the Vols turned into a major mistake by Alabama.

With 12:42 remaining in the second quarter, Mekiel Stewart went for the ball after it avoided punt returner Kool-Aid McKinstry, who nearly touched the ball. It was recovered by Christian Charles of Tennessee at the Alabama 40. Gary Danielson on the CBS Sports broadcast said that he figured Stewart thought McKinstry touched the ball, and with it loose felt the need to recover it.

The Vols then started their drive and went 3 plays before Princeton Fant scored on a 2-yard run on second and goal to take a 28-10 lead.

The muffed punt was the latest in a series of mistakes for Alabama, which also had 7 penalties for 54 yards.
