Alabama entered Saturday’s scrimmage with just 2 of its top-10 pass-catchers from 2021 available. That means there are lots of opportunities for the young Crimson Tide receivers to step up and earn playing time.

Nick Saban told reporters after the scrimmage that Kobe Prentice was a standout among the young wideouts Saturday.

“We were inconsistent at receiver today,” Saban said in his press conference. “We made some really good plays. We dropped some balls. I think Kobe Prentice, probably of the young guys, I think he had like 5 catches. He was probably the guy that stood out the most of the young players.”

Prentice, out of Calera (Alabama), was rated 4-stars and the No. 78 overall prospect in 2022 on the 247Sports composite rankings. While Prentice got singled out Saturday, Saban added that all the young wideouts have had their moments in camp.

“But each and every day, there’s a different guy that shows that they have some ability to do some things in a really positive way,” Saban said. “So I think if I was gonna evaluate the group, I would say we all need to play with more consistency. We got to get the quarterback really comfortable with the receivers that we’re gonna play within the spots they’re going to play. That’s got to be a goal for us in the coming weeks.”
