Nick Saban says Alabama is preparing for multiple Tennessee QBs
Tennessee heads into the Third Saturday in October showdown (which doesn’t agree with the calendar in 2020) this year coming off a 34-7 loss to Kentucky in which three Volunteers quarterbacks played in the game.
The topic came up during Nick Saban’s weekly radio show Thursday night. The Crimson Tide says UA’s defense is game-planning for two Volunteers quarterbacks.
“I think (Brian) Mauer will probably play,” Saban said. “We have a lot of respect for (Jarrett) Guarantano. They both played against us in the past. I think both are very capable, good athletes. Can both throw it. I think that it’s important that you can push the pocket and affect these guys. They try to make a lot of explosive plays, especially when you play middle-of-the-field coverage. Gonna throw the ball down the field a lot. They’re gonna be protection conscious. They’re very sound in what they do.”
Guarantano, J.T. Shrout and freshman Harrison Bailey all played in the UK game. Maurer has yet to play this season.
Saturday’s game is set for a 2:30 p.m. CT from Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, airing on CBS.
