Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide draw a sneaky Texas A&M team this Saturday at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.
And with how Alabama has played this season, with their consistency how it is, that’s a daunting matchup. The Aggies have looked good offensively under new OC Bobby Petrino, but failed their top test of the season so far against Miami in Week 2.
But the Aggies are a different team now. Max Johnson is running the show after Conner Weigman’s injury, DJ Durkin’s defense has put up good numbers to start SEC play and the Aggies have won 3 straight.
At the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday, Saban was asked about Petrino and his efficacy as the Aggies’ new OC after a dreadful offensive season in 2022.
Here’s what he had to say:
“He’s a great offensive coach, there’s no doubt. I do see some similarities from in the run game as well as the passing game and more utilization of various personnel groups, which causes you a lot of different things you’ve got to work on in practice and prepare for,” Saban said. “Passing game is sound and solid, they’ve always been good that way. I think the combination of him and Jimbo has been very, very productive for them offensively in terms of how they utilize their players.”
This is a big one, folks. The winner between A&M and Alabama will remain the only undefeated team in the SEC West, placing themselves firmly in the driver’s seat for aa trip to Atlanta. of course, it’s not that simple, but any advantage is a good one in the SEC.
The Tide and Aggies face off at 3:30 ET on CBS from College Station.
