Saturday was not a great night if you were a member of the Alabama football team or a fan of the team. It was a rare home loss to a nonconference team, as Texas came in and defeated the Crimson Tide, 34-24.

The Crimson Tide led 16-13 entering the 4th quarter, but got outscored 21-8 as the Longhorns pulled away for the win.

Coach Nick Saban on Monday said the energy and execution to start the game was actually very good, but they have to work to be able to do that for a full 60 minutes.

“I think the energy level was good and I think we started out the game really good,” Saban said. “Did we sustain it for 60 minutes? No. Did we play well in the 4th quarter? No. We started out I thought really well. Good energy, physical. We knocked the ball out of them a couple times, we ran the ball effectively in the beginning of the game. But, our ability to sustain was not what it needs to be and we didn’t play well enough in the 4th quarter.”

Despite the loss, the team was still very positive and upbeat for the season, and Saban is confident this team is going to get better.

“I would be shocked if this team doesn’t respond in a really positive way,” Saban said. “We have to have better execution, we have to do simple things better. This isn’t just  about the attitude of the players. They all wanted to win more than any fan or anybody in this room. They put in all the work and preparation into it.”

Alabama will be back in action on Saturday at South Florida. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm ET.
