Nick Saban talks down on favorites in games: ‘I respect what it takes to win’

Nick Saban went on a bit of a mini rant concerning ‘favorites’ and quality of opponents in college football games.
Perhaps Alabama’s latest game against Texas is a good example. The Tide were 20 point favorites over the Longhorns and ended up winning by the skin of their teeth, 20-19.
Saban said he respects what it takes to win Wednesday, and that nothing else should matter. Quality of opponent is merely an opinion.
Saban: “I respect what it takes to win. What does what your favored in a game mean? It means the people favoring you either don’t know what they’re talking about or the players playing got affected by that. Neither one of them are good.”

This isn’t a new take of Saban’s either.
Nick Saban on being a 20-point favorite against Texas:
“The last time we were 20-point favorites and we went to Texas, we got our ass kicked.”

It’s hard to imagine the Crimson Tide will struggle to that magnitude again this season. Especially with their coach preaching domination at a midweek availability heading into a bout versus Louisiana Monroe.
Nick Saban: “There’s a lot of emphasis on winning games, but true competitors really wanna play to the best of their ability and try to dominate the competition.”
