Sideline warnings have become a point of emphasis for officials this season, and Alabama experienced them first-hand on Saturday during its win over Florida State.

This season, coaches who come on the field to protest a call will be flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. It’s designed to be an automatic call. Two flags in a game will lead to ejection.

On Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference, coach Nick Saban explained that his players were actually moving to the field too quickly.

“Because we sub a lot, guys want to get out there too fast,” Saban said. “We had to get that cleaned up.”

Saban also updated the status of injured linebackers Anfernee Jennings and Rashaan Evans, who he said earlier this week had “significant injuries,” but they wouldn’t be long term. Jennings has a sprained ankle and Evans suffered a groin injury. Saban said both will be questionable for Saturday’s game against Fresno State, and are day-to-day.

The coach also updated the status of running back Josh Jacobs, who has practiced this week.

“I can’t tell you he will be game ready. We are trying to prevent a re-injury,” Saban said, referring to the hamstring injury.

Saban added that the injuries have had an impact on the Alabama special teams units.

“There is no question that it has an impact, we have some really good special teams players,” he said. “We try not to play any starter on more than two special teams units. They know how it can impact a game.”
