Paul Finebaum expresses concern for state of Alabama, insists SC win 'felt like a loss'
Paul Finebaum joins the McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning show every Monday to break down the college football world. On the docket for this week, among other items, was Alabama’s uninspiring win over South Carolina.
Despite getting the win, Finebaum said Alabama still has major issues, and even said the game feels more like a loss.
“They did get a win, but it felt like a loss,” Finebaum said. “Whether that really matters or not I think is yet to be determined. But we live in the moment, whether we’re prisoners or not, and most Alabama fans I’ve spoken to just came away with a very bad feeling because it was exactly the opposite of what fans expected. Fans, predictably, expected your bounce back. Vanderbilt had to be an outlier, this team had to be a lot better than that… and it seemed like a continuum and that’s what has so many people upset and feeling like a loss instead of a win.”
Alabama was up 8 points with less than a minute left, but the Gamecocks scored to cut it to 27-25. They weren’t able to get the 2-point conversion, but South Carolina recovered the onside kick and had a chance to win the game late before an interception by the Crimson Tide.
After the upset against Vanderbilt, the expectation was that Alabama would respond in a big way and come out and look dominant. The fact that didn’t happen is definitely starting to make people question how good Alabama really is.
The game against Tennessee next weekend is a matchup of 2 teams that are in very similar situations. Like Alabama, Tennessee was upset 2 weeks ago, and the Volunteers didn’t do much to show they had moved on in their lackluster overtime win at home against Florida.
The game in Knoxville will have one fanbase feeling much more confident about their team, and the other one realizing a playoff berth may be in serious jeopardy.
“If Alabama goes to Knoxville and wins, their percentage of going to the Playoff goes up exponentially and the meltdown this Monday is a blip on the radar,” Finebaum concluded.
Go retire somewhere else Pawull.
I told you so David.
Bama coaches should be wearing paper sacks over their heads. Pathetic job, particularly on defense.
I wear one in my media room while watching the game.
ESPN Analytics – weekly QB ranking gave Milroe a QBR of 69 for his game against So Carolina – that kept him barely in the top 50 at number 45 for his so-called work last Sat.
The QB’s at Vandy Georgia Texas Miss St LSU and Missouri all beat out Milroe…. Even the new back-up at Wisconsin beat Milroe by 35 slots…and this after he JUST LOST TO VANDY.
