Paul Finebaum thinks Alabama fans might want to wait a little before writing off the Rose Bowl as a win.

He joined “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on Monday on WJOX in Birmingham, Alabama to talk about the upcoming Rose Bowl.

McElroy has talked to fans who aren’t even going to the game and have already bought tickets to the national championship in Houston. Finebaum quickly reminded how the Crimson Tide lost to Ohio State in the 2014 Sugar Bowl. Ohio State beat Alabama 42-35 and went on to win the national championship against Oregon.

“I don’t need to remind people, that was what happened in 2014. I remember walking around the French Quarter before the Ohio State game, and there were no Alabama fans there,” said Finebaum. “We did a show outside of Manning’s restaurant and it was all Ohio State fans because Alabama fans wanted to go to the 1st CFP Championship game in Dallas.”

Finebaum still thinks Alabama can win, but after interviewing renowned gambler Billy Walters recently, the pundit is a little cautious. Walters said that the right team is favored and shared concerns about the field and how it could affect the speed of Alabama.

“I like Alabama, but I’ve talked to a few smart and objective people who aren’t necessarily on board,” said Finebaum. “I’d hate for somebody who doesn’t gamble to quote one of the more famous gamblers in the world on how he saw the game, but I interviewed Billy Walters the other night. … I asked him point blank about the game, and he said the right team’s favored. Then, I didn’t agree with this, but he mentioned the field and how it might negate some of the speed of Alabama.”

The Rose Bowl will take place on New Year’s Day at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN.
