Paul Finebaum and Takeo Spikes don’t see eye to eye on what Alabama should do at quarterback, namely whether to keep Jalen Milroe as the starter, or put in Tyler Buchner or Ty Simpson.

During a segment on the SEC Network on Wednesday afternoon, Finebaum asked if Milroe would be the starting quarterback much longer.

“With a talent like him, you could be advantageous to Alabama to create opportunities for him, just because of his skillset,” Spikes said. “We’ve seen what he can do just off of busted plays, him breaking around the pocket. Yeah, it looks good, but he’s effective. For me, before I even think about benching him, at least try to put everything that you’ve got in it. All of your stock, and just say, ‘Let’s give him a true chance’ and see what he can do”

Finebaum added, “I’m not there, but my sense is Alabama’s pretty close to benching him.”

Spikes said that’s fair, but questioned what to do with the offensive line struggles. Spikes said he agreed with coach Nick Saban when he said everything is fixable, but the offensive line still needs seasoning, and his point is that Milroe is the “equalizing factor.”

Later in his show, with a caller, Finebaum added, “I would start Buchner and give him a shot and if he can’t do it than keep going down the roster, but you’ve already seen, Milroe did some great things, and he’s done some horrible things as well.”
