Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman watched as his team lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wildcard round of the NFL Playoffs over the weekend.

QB Jalen Hurts, the former Alabama and Oklahoma star and 2020 NFL Draft second-round pick, finished out his first year as the starter in Philly, throwing for 3,144 yards, 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He added 784 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rusher, too.

This week, Roseman spoke about his quarterback, confirming that he’d seen enough to give Hurts another year as the starter (via Pro Football Talk):

“We talk about Jalen and the growth he had, really first-year starter, second-year player, leading this team to the playoffs — tremendously impressed with his work ethic, his leadership,” Roseman said. “The last time we talked was during camp and we said we wanted to see him take the bull by the horns and he certainly did that.”

Asked to clarify if that means Hurts is the starter for 2022, Roseman answered, “Yes.”

The Eagles have 3 first-round picks in the upcoming draft, and it sounds like they’re committed to surrounding Hurts with talent:

“I think for us, we’ve got to do whatever we can to continue to help him develop,” Roseman said. “And how do we do that? By surrounding him with really good players, players who continue to grow. … That’s on us to continue to build this team.”

We’ll see who the Eagles take in the 2022 NFL Draft, but next year seems like an important one for Hurts.
