The saga of Deionte Thompson continued Friday as the Alabama redshirt freshman has turned himself into the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. An arrest warrant was issued for the defensive back Thursday night in connection with a felony assault in Texas.

The alleged incident took place last month during Alabama’s spring break. Thompson has been booked as a ‘fugitive from justice’ according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s website.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban released the following statement in regards to the situation Friday afternoon.

“We are still in the process of gathering all the facts in Deionte’s situation. He has been excused today to cooperate with law enforcement in this matter. Once we have a better understanding of what happened, we will make a determination as to what needs to be done in terms of the appropriate course of action moving forward.”
