Both polls have Crimson Tide at No. 1
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Although it didn’t land the most first-place votes the University of Alabama football team moved into the top spot of the Associated Press Poll, and held on to No. 1 in the Amway Coaches Poll on Sunday.
Last week the Crimson Tide was first in the coaches poll, but second in the Associated Press poll.
With Florida State having more first-place votes in the AP poll, 29 to 25, Alabama’s very-tight lead is just three points: 1,426-1,423.
Alabama picked up five more five-place votes in the coaches poll, as both it and Florida State had 28, while Oregon had six. Overall, the Crimson Tide had 1,507 votes compared to 1,489 for the Seminoles.
TCU was fourth in both polls, edging Baylor. The Big 12 doesn’t have a championship game, so both teams will close their regular seasons on Saturday. Baylor hosts Kansas State, while TCU hosts Iowa State.
Alabama plays Missouri in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, while Florida State faced Georgia Tech in the ACC title game, and Oregon has a rematch with Arizona in the Pac-12.
The latest rankings by the College Football Playoff Committee will be announced Tuesday. The top four were 1. Alabama, 2. Oregon, 3. Florida State, and 4. Mississippi State — which lost this past week to Ole Miss. TCU was fifth.
