One of the coaching rumors surrounding Lane Kiffin can be put to bed.

Fresno State, a coaching vacancy to which Kiffin was heavily connected, hired Jeff Tedford to be its new coach Thursday. The school announced the hire via a tweet from its athletic director.

Kiffin played quarterback at Fresno State from 1994-1996 with, oddly enough, Tedford as his position coach and offensive coordinator. The Alabama offensive coordinator’s first coaching position was as an assistant with the Bulldogs.

The job was a logical landing spot for Kiffin, but perhaps he’s holding out for more high-profile job. LSU and Purdue are already in the midst of coaching searches, and vacancies could pop up at Texas and Notre Dame.

Kiffin has been mentioned for several jobs. His stock has quickly risen given Alabama’s success in a spread offense with a true freshman quarterback.
