Pray for MSU: Alabama players react to Georgia jumping them in CFP rankings
Alabama fans likely weren’t pleased when it was announced on Tuesday night that the Crimson Tide had fell to No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings after their loss to LSU this past Saturday.
Apparently, Alabama players had a similar reaction.
Crimson Tide redshirt freshman running back Jerome Ford shared a video on his Instagram of Alabama players in the locker room reacting to the announcement that Georgia was ranked No. 4 in this week’s CFP rankings. The clip was shared by Justin Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine on Twitter:

Although Alabama’s loss to LSU was its first of the season, none of the Crimson Tide’s eight wins have been against a team that is currently ranked. That could change in a few weeks when they play at Auburn in the regular-season finale.
However, there’s an argument to be made that Alabama was still more deserving of the No. 4 spot than its SEC rival Georgia. The Bulldogs’ lone loss is much worse than the Crimson Tide’s, as they fell to South Carolina at home in double overtime last month.
Of course, it doesn’t truly matter which four teams are at the top of the CFP rankings when there are still several weeks of the regular season to unfold. If the Crimson Tide win out, there’s a chance they’ll still get into the Playoff.
If they don’t, it would be the first time that the Tide miss the Playoff since the system was implemented for the 2014 season.
Alabama will look to bounce back when it travels to play at Mississippi State on Saturday at noon ET on ESPN.
UGAs loss way worse. No arguing that. But our wins are better. Hard to believe people are angry about this. Everything will play out in the next few weeks. Go Dawgs!
That’s what I don’t understand too. Bama’s lone loss is without question better than UGA’s. However, rankings aren’t alone decided by the quantity and quality of losses. If I’m not mistaken, the only Power 5 team with a winning record Bama beat is TAMU which doesn’t compare to the quantity and quality of UGA’s wins. However, it’s all a moot point and will play itself out in the coming weeks.
Agree. I think UGA should be #4 until otherwise proven that they are not. The committee knows UGA vs AUB and Iron Bowl will help sort out the Bama/UGA rankings. However, if UGA beats AUB then dont expect Bama to have a chance unless LSU destroys UGA and then people will say Bama only lost by 5 and UGA got blown out
UGAs playoff stared after the USCjr game. We can’t lose another game or we’re out. Every week is an elimination game.
Yeah well looks like bama is getting in cause if you think we destroyed them last year wait till Atlanta. Our offense is way better. I think bama still gets in and LSU will have to step up 1 vs 4. To be the best you got to beat the best. Tua will be healthy and maybe their defense gets a pick me up. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!
UGADAWG78 “We can’t lose another game or we’re out.”
Maybe, maybe not. If UGA loses to Auburn but beats LSU, you think the committee will take non-champ LSU over a UGA team who just beat them?
I’m not so sure about that.
No but they’d take a 1-loss Pac-12 and Big 12 champ over a 2-loss SEC champ, so y’all would still need help.
Is everyone associated with Bama a snowflake or just the most vocal ones?
Snowflakes are always vocal. Most Bama fans are vocal therefore, yep, most Bama fans are snowflakes. I endured the Mike years…Price, Franchione, Shula..I like to think I am passionate and honest. Alabama does not deserve to be in the playoff. However, I do think they are one of the four best teams. So whatever happens, happens.
Bama fans: complacent and entitlement
LSU fans: obnoxious and crazy
Auburn fans: quick to want to fire a coach
UGA fans: love their braves, falcons too so their not as passionate about the Dawgs as other states who only have their college team
Tenn fans: LOYAL..enduring
Could go on..but who cares
I agree, but would add a pinch of craziness and obnoxiousness to UGA fans too.
Can’t stand the Falcons, baseball sucks and basketball is garbage. UGA is the only team in GA I care about.
Your UGA fans thing is totally incorrect. We have a beloved tradition of crucifying offensive coordinators and we sport an incredible array of deep scars from the Braves, the Falcons, and our beloved Dawgs. We are used to heartbreak, but we definitely hold the Dawgs to the highest standard, because a) nobody in towns like Tifton and Americus cares about the Falcons, and b) watching pro baseball in and of itself just doesn’t carry the emotional attachement and memories that college football does.
UGA fans are as passionate as the rest. A decent amount of the Falcons, Braves, and other team diehards are the non-UGA fans, but the UGA fans who love them all put UGA far above the Atlanta teams. Just watch them travel for road games as well or better than any fan base.
I know a lot of UGA fans like the Braves and Falcons. I was born and raised in Georgia, lived in Atlanta suburbs since I was 8. I idolized Dale Murphy.
But nowadays, I couldn’t care less about the Atlanta pro teams.
There is only one sport, and one team, that matters.
Georgia seems to have the most hateful fans in the SEC. A lot tend to be very bitter and negative and hateful to other fan bases.
I like Georgia and hate to see this from their fans. Sad.
thanks for that nice note about us VOLS…enduring is indeed a correct, descriptive term (but except maybe Vandy, all the teams have some obnoxious/crazy fans.)
I think FSU and Arky beat WarBuzzardU for quick fires this season at least.
Most hateful? No that’s us. I hate all of you. Go Cocks! …..
It’s struggle
Is everyone assoicated with Florida jealous of Alabama? I mean, what have the Gators done since Tebow left? Hell Gators, you can’t even beat Georgia and Alabama has done it on a yearly basis. Win something then get back to us.
Hey Jeff! Thanks for proving my point, snowflake.
Saban says they need to focus on MSU and not the playoff scenarios. Seems Saban is failing to do that. Bama is the Heavyweight champ who has gained 30 lbs and trains like it going to win by showing up. Com’on Bama. Train like your a nobody trying to be a somebody and win by showing up and winning by KO in the 3rd round max….”We Want Bama” that’s a joke now. Bama is slippin. I hate knowing that the old champ still thinks they are heavyweight title holder. Man, you lost that title and have embarrassed the last two fights you fought.
I think the loss of that mentality you’re talking about is most evident on defense. Alabama used to be the defense that no one rushed for 100 yards on, scored a Defense/ST TD in every game, and even the best teams were just hoping to stay in the game and keep it respectable. Now they pretty much have to have a high-flying offense because their running game is inconsistent and the defense is suspect most of the time, and with all the talent they have they should be able to impose their will on everybody. I think that mentality is what is separating Clemson from Alabama at this point. Dabo still has Clemson playing with a chip on their shoulder in big games, and for whatever reason, Saban just isn’t getting that same level of intensity out of Alabama. I know every time Alabama loses everyone screams “THE DYNASTY IS OVER,” and maybe this is more me hoping than anything, but it really feels like Alabama is more vulnerable in all aspects than they’ve been in a long time.
Bama is clearly a better team than UGA. Imagine the negative the committee would be getting if Bama was in the top 4 right now. By putting them just outside, they are seeming unbiased. When LSU or someone else beats UGA then the path opens right back up.
“Clearly”?
Clearly may not be the right work but if you asked any non bias fan who they think would win in a matchup this year Bama or UGA most people would pick bama. I would like to see how UGA plays against LSU. If they lose by more than two scores I think it’s clear Bama will make it to the playoffs over UGA
That’s fair but to be honest I don’t know how good Bama is. I know they’re talented but so is UGA. They may beat us if we played but I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion.
Its your O that worries people. With the amount of talent UGA has especially on the O line and RB they should be able to run over just about everybody. Unfortunately the offense has been lack luster. The defense is the only thing that has kept UGA in games this year.
Agreed Ben. Without the serious threat of a passing game any elite Oline is going to struggle against 8 in the box. Pleasantly surprised how much our defense has picked up this year, otherwise we’re probably 7-3 at best…
Clearly better in what respect? At WR for sure, but other than that… I don’t think anyone expected the Committee to put UGA ahead of Bama, but who cares? These rankings don’t mean anything.
Doesn’t this qualify as “rat poison” according to Saban? Having the most-ever points in a half in the Saban Era hung on you and the most points given up in 4 quarters EVER at B-D says that y’all have some work to do; so, get to it…
They can keep on rolling down the drain, and good riddance.
This is how every team in America feels about Bama
For the record, I think that Bama is a great team. NOT the overwhelming juggernauts that they have been in the past, but a great team. Their D (most notably their D line) is not the impenetrable wall that it once was, but they are still good.
With that being said, they don’t deserve to be in the top 4. In fact, I’d probably slot them even a little lower. I think that I’d at least put Oregon in front of them. Granted, they only have 1 loss, as does Oregon. Oregon’s loss was to Auburn on a NEUTRAL field, whereas Bama’s was to LSU on their HOME field. So, maybe an ever so slight advantage to Oregon there. The difference lies in the rest of the schedule. Bama’s other wins are just not that impressive. Sure they won by 50 or such, but it was Duke, New Mexico State, etc. And A&M was already falling fast. UGA has a really bad loss, but at least they have 2 good wins to counteract that. Bama doesn’t. So, UGA’s horrible loss & 2 ranked wins is better than Bama’s ranked loss & NO ranked wins.
While I still think that Bama is a great team, in my opinion that got undone (MOSTLY) by their weak non conference schedule, and playing weaker opponents from the East. Yes, I’m aware that one of those weaker East opponents was the very team that beat UGA. But, again, NO quality wins, whereas UGA beat ND & Florida.
Not sure who had control of Alabama scheduling, but it is what it is, change to more power 5 teams if you want more respect. Recent loss is all committee cares about right now, win out decisively, then lobby for inclusion.
Worry about taking care of business like coach tells you and you will be fine, I think y’all may have gotten the message now!
Supposed to not get beat twice but SC is beating us more with every game they play. They must really hate us. Alabama is like the Yankees. No one is going to ever pitty a team that has run roughshod over everyone for so long. Goes with territory. As far as video goes they feel like Georgia did last year. But you have to play a schedule. Looks like most sec teams are doing that going forward but schedules are set years in advance.
At this point, it doesn’t matter until two weeks from now when both have played Auburn.
These rankings are meaningless right now…it just gives everyone something to talk about…a lot of football to be played yet…
Well hopefully for Bama the players don’t show up like the UGA players did in the Sugar Bowl after spending a week crying that ND got in instead of them…
I really do not see what the big deal is. For Georgia to make it to the playoffs it has to beat Auburn, A&M, GT and LSU. Not going to happen. For Alabama to make it to the playoffs it has to beat State, W. Carolina and Auburn. Possible. The one thing that can kick Alabama out of the playoffs? An LSU loss. Tide fans need to cheer for LSU to win its last three games and if Alabama’s only loss at the end of the regular season is to No. 1 LSU, then the Tide is in.
Bama can win all of those games and still not make it in over LSU, OSU-Minnesota, Clemson, (All undefeated) and a one loss Oklahoma or Oregon that won it’s conference.
I mean why would the Committee put Bama in there with LSU? They already saw how that one played out on Bama’s turf, you think it goes BETTER for Bama without the home crowd? Let other deserving teams take a crack at it.
Because it has happened before? I say expand the playoff to 8 teams.
Move along people! Nothing to see here.
Bama hasn’t lost consecutive games in 13 years! Ain’t gonna happen now.
And UGA can leap them in the rankings all they want; cuz they ain’t gonna do it ON THE FIELD.
The last time there were regular season back to back losses for Bama was in 2007. First loss of that four game slide was to LSU. The second was to my dawgs. No hate to Bama, but every other team in this league should be rooting for State this weekend. Unless y’all are happy being ticks on the elephant that is.
Alabama is obviously better than MSU and should win because they are more talented. However, I just don’t see the MSU players playing scared. That’s fan speak.
