Former Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has become a bona fide media star during his young career with the New York Jets.

Williams led the Jets with seven sacks in 2020, and is expected to be building block on the defense for new coach Robert Saleh. He appeared on a recent segment of “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network to discuss the Alabama players in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Asked about the Jets potentially drafting DeVonta Smith or Jaylen Waddle with the No. 2 pick in the draft, Williams gave his trademark wide smile.

“I’d be extremely happy just to have two of my guys that I helped recruit to come in, Alabama men, two of my guys that know the Alabama standard and just know the quality of a winning culture,” he said. “Both of them are an explosive group of guys and just great playmakers. Any team that they go on, I wish both would come on ours, but any team they go on, I know they’re going to make plays for that team.”

Asked directly who he would take at No. 2 if he were the general manager, Williams said, “I’m going with Smith.”

Smith is widely expected to be taken near the top of the draft, but his selection is largely dependent on how the Jets’ brain trust feels about QB Sam Darnold, and any trade offers the officials receive.
