The 2020 NFL Draft is only a couple of months away, and that means speculation about who the Washington Redskins will take with the No. 2 overall pick is starting to heat up.

The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to take QB Joe Burrow with the first pick, and the Redskins are expected to take DE Chase Young immediately after.

However, there has been some speculation that the Redskins could take Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa in the No. 2 spot. Redskins legend Joe Theismann doesn’t think that will happen though, as he said on “Chad Dukes vs. the World” on Friday (via 247Sports):

“They are out of their minds if they think that Tua will go No. 2 to the Redskins,” Theismann said. “That position belongs to Chase Young. Think of it. We’re going to a 4-3 defense. You have Jonathan (Allen). You have Daron (Payne). You have Matt (Ioannidis). You have (Montez) Sweat. You have (Ryan) Kerrigan. You have a rotation. Now, you add, which I think is the best athlete in the draft, to our defensive line. Jack Del Rio is sitting there going, ‘yeah I can do something with this. I’m pretty excited about what we have.’ That is the only way the Redskins should go. Any other way they go would be a major surprise and it wouldn’t make sense. I think Chase Young is the guy there.”

Theismann continued, citing Tagovailoa’s health as a major concern heading into the draft:

“You would not take Tua at that position,” Theismann said. “First of all, he hasn’t been healthy. I like the kid. I think he’s had a terrific career. This is not personal. This is just an observation. I don’t think his arm is that strong. Other people see him in a different way. I’ve only been looking at quarterbacks for the last 50 years. Maybe I don’t know what the heck I’m looking at.”

The Redskins have Dwayne Haskins as their quarterback, so it’s doubtful they’d take Tagovailoa with the No. 2 pick. Young seems like the logical choice, but anything can happen come draft day.
