As Heisman Trophy contenders go, Alabama RB Najee Harris is among the top contenders in the SEC. Former Southern Cal star Reggie Bush has even higher praise.
“I call him Derrick Henry 2.0,” Bush said on the Big Noon Kickoff SEC Preview on FOX. “… Harris can do all those things Derrick Henry can do. Then he’s also elusive. Then he can jump over people. He can run routes and all those things. I think he can win the Heisman this year. … I think he’s the ultimate weapon and I really think highly of him.”
Harris is listed at 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds.
Harris had a big 2019 season, and has recorded 7 100-plus yard games in his career, including 6 as a junior. He had 20 TDs as a junior (13 rushing, seven receiving) to tie for fourth in single-season ranks for touchdowns scored.
His seven receiving touchdowns are the most by a Crimson Tide running back in program history and tie for ninth in the single-season receiving ranks. Last year, he had 1,224 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns on 209 carries which were all team-high and career-best marks.
Perhaps most valuably, Harris totaled a first down or a touchdown on 81 of his rushes with 12 of his receptions moving the chains or scoring.
