A few months removed from naming his top 10, the top overall 2020 prospect from the state of Tennessee has narrowed his options down to six schools.

Five-star Mount Juliet native Reggie Grimes II announced on Monday evening that Alabama, Florida State, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are the six programs that have made the cut. That means Grimes has moved those schools ahead of Clemson, Louisville, Memphis and Ohio State since December.

Grimes is not only the top-rated prospect from Tennessee this year but he’s also an Alabama legacy as his father and his mother both competed athletically in Tuscaloosa. That appears to be great news for the Crimson Tide as the 6-foot-4, 240-pound is rated as the No. 28 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 3 weakside defensive end by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

So should Alabama fans pencil Grimes in as the next great defender to leave his state to play in Nick Saban’s defense? That may not be etched in stone at this point.

During a recent interview with Josh Bean of AL.com, Grimes noted that his parents are letting him decide where he plays college football without pushing him to Tuscaloosa. He also notes in the piece that he never was a fan of Tennessee until recently and could now envision himself playing for the Volunteers.

It sounds as if Grimes may wait to see what kind of product Jeremy Pruitt’s Tennessee program puts out on the field this fall before he makes his final decision but in the meantime, LSU, South Carolina, FSU and Vanderbilt may have some catching up to do in the recruitment of Tennessee’s top in-state prospect.
