Nick Saban may have found Scott Cochran’s replacement.

Tom Brew of Sports Illustrated Maven’s HoosiersNow is reporting that Indiana strength coach David Ballou has been offered the same position at Alabama. Brew further reports that Dr. Matt Rhea, Indiana’s Athletic Performance Coach, is expected to go to Alabama with Ballou.

Ballou would be leaving his alma mater to join Nick Saban’s staff. A Hoosier fullback in the 1990s, Ballou was previously co-director of football strength at Notre Dame for the 2017 season. Most of his experience comes from the high school level. From 2002-14, Ballou was the head strength and conditioning coach at Avon High School in Indiana. In 2015 and ’16, Ballou was head football strength and conditioning coach at powerhouse program IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. At IMG, he also worked with college players training for the NFL Draft.

Cochran, who recently left for an on-field position at Georgia, was arguably the most prominent Saban assistant during his time at Alabama. He recently starred in Regions Bank commercials airing on the SEC Network and was featured in Showtime’s “60 Minutes Sports” for a segment on the Alabama strength program.

This past season, Indiana football won eight games for the first time since 1993. Eleven Hoosiers players earned All-Big Ten honors. Brew writes, “Several Indiana coaches have said that Ballou and Rhea ‘basically add a star to all those recruiting ratings.'”
