Report: Lane Kiffin mentioned as candidate for Oregon job
Another SEC coach is rumored to be in the mix for Oregon’s next head coach.
According to a report from FootballScoop.com, Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has been discussed among those leading the Ducks’ search. Mark Helfrich’s firing Tuesday night created another major coaching vacancy, one for which Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen and Florida’s Jim McElwain are reportedly in the running.
Kiffin has been rumored for several jobs in the last few months, most recently being strongly connected to Ed Orgeron’s promotion at LSU. He would remain an offensive coordinator if that move came to fruition, but now he’s involved in another head coaching search.
Kiffin was expected to be a candidate for the opening at Fresno State, his alma mater, before it was taken by his old mentor Jeff Tedford.
The Crimson Tide’s offense has evolved into a potent spread attack under Kiffin, who has been a head coach for three other teams. Kiffin has long been rumored to be leaving Tuscaloosa after this season, and Oregon is just the next school reportedly in line for his services.
Not a surprise. Kiffin will get mentioned for a lot of head coach openings. He is one of the best OCs in the country. I think he’d do well as a head coach now, but I’m not sure some place like Oregon, that demands immediate success, is willing to give him his first shot after failing terribly at his last big time gig.
I would be more than a little surprised if Oregon would take a chance on Kiffin. You never know though…
As a Bama fan, all I can really say is that wherever he goes, he will do a great job. Hope it isn’t LSU, but I won’t hate on him if he ends up there. Being an assistant under Saban isn’t the easiest gig a coach can endure for an extended period. Learn and go. Its almost the circle of life.
LSU already hired Orgeron…
he was talking about the oc position
my bad
Of course he will be mentioned. It’s the media doing all the mentioning, so we will see the same names for all the openings.
Kiffin is gone. The question is where and in what role. As a life long Alabama fan I hate to see it. Kiffin has done an outstanding job at Alabama. He’s a great play caller. He’s a master at creating mis-matches and developing QB’s.
