Robert Griffin III was on the ABC call for the broadcast of the Alabama-South Florida game and summarized the Alabama quarterback situation.

Tyler Buchner was benched and replaced by Ty Simpson in the first half. That came after Buchner replaced Jalen Milroe, who started the first 2 games of the season, but threw 2 interceptions last week in a loss to Texas. Part of the issue was Alabama surrendered 5 sacks on Saturday by midway through the 4th quarter.

Ahead of a 3rd down play in the fourth quarter, Griffin was asked about the play call, and he said of Simpson, “They clearly don’t trust the quarterback right now.” Simpson completed a pass to Jermaine Burton, but the play ended short of the first down.

Earlier in the broadcast, Griffin had a question for Alabama.

“Have they figured out who their quarterback is? Because I don’t think that they have,” he said. “Right now they’re coming out of this game with more questions than answers at the quarterback position because they’ve played 2 new guys, and 4-of-8 from Ty Simpson and 5-of-14 from Tyler Buchner isn’t truly what they were expecting coming out of this game.”

Griffin later said 2’s a party and 3’s a crowd, and for his part, ranked the quarterbacks this way: Milroe-Simpson-Buchner.

“Lane Kiffin is just licking his chops to see this version of an Alabama football team,” Griffin said of Ole Miss being Alabama’s opponent next week.
