Ryqueze McElderry is making a name change as Alabama gets set to start spring practice.

Offensive lineman Ryqueze McElderry was announced as Rock McElderry when he signed with Alabama in December, but is listed as Roq Montgomery on the school’s 2023 spring roster and on his Instagram profile. He’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 350 pounds.

He is taking the last name of his mother, Markesha Montgomery.

“He comes from a great family,” former Anniston and current Mae Jemison coach Rico White told AL.com last year. “His mother did an excellent job raising him. She holds him to a higher standard and, believe me, he lives by it. You tell him to go get this done and he does it. He knows what it means to be a professional player.”

Coming out of high school, he was a 3-star on the 247Composite rankings, and was the No. 26 interior offensive lineman and No. 22 player from Alabama.

Other name changes at Alabama include running back Jamarion Miller now listed as Jam Miller, and incoming 5-star freshman cornerback Desmond Ricks now listed as Dezz Ricks.
