Evidently, it doesn’t matter which Alabama wide receiver lines up where on any given play.

A video tweeted by Olivia Whitmire of WHNT in Huntsville, Ala., showed Crimson Tide receivers Jerry Jeudy and DeVonta Smith playing rock, paper, scissors during Alabama’s 49-7 win over Southern Miss on Saturday. And no, it wasn’t because the receivers were bored during the Tide’s lopsided victory.

It was actually because they both wanted to run the same route on the play, and they used the quick game to decide who would get to.

“That’s funny,” fellow Alabama receiver Henry Ruggs III told AL.com’s Michael Casagrande, “because we have playmakers everywhere and at any moment, any guy can make a play so once they got the play call, they knew, ‘Oh, this is the route that is going to catch the touchdown.’ So they rock, paper, scissored over who was going to run that route.”

That shows the flexibility of the Crimson Tide’s offense as well as the football IQ of their receivers for them to remember all of the routes on a given play.

“We all know every position so at any moment, we can move around,” Ruggs said. “I can go in the slot or go outside or something like that. So if they see a big route coming, everybody wants it so they just did rock, paper, scissors to see who was going to run it.”

With Alabama set to host Ole Miss this weekend, a game that it should handily win, perhaps we’ll see more rock, paper, scissors from the Crimson Tide’s offense.

Alabama and Ole Miss are set to kick off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
