Alabama saw its College Football Playoff hopes come to an end on Saturday with a wild 48-45 loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

A 30-yard field goal with 2 minutes left that would have tied it, but instead hit the upright and stayed out, giving the Tigers the ball back for good. And for the first time since the CFP was established in 2014, the Crimson Tide will not be a participant.

That fact was driven home as the latest Playoff rankings were revealed, which saw Alabama plummet from No. 5 to No. 12. In a cruelly ironic twist for several reasons, Auburn was placed a spot higher at No. 11.

The good news for the Tide: their loss of seven spots paled in comparison to Minnesota dropping 10 places to No. 18.

Social media was quick to react to the rankings upon their unveiling, with Tide fans either accepting of their fate or upset at the committee’s decision, Auburn fans celebrating the fate of their rival, and college football fans in general chiming in with comments of their own.
