Kenyan Drake has a new start in the NFL thanks to the Miami Dolphins plan to remake their roster ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Arizona Cardinals has reached agreement in principle to trade a conditional 2020 draft pick to Miami for RB Kenyan Drake, the former Alabama player. Drake was a third-round pick (73rd overall) by Miami in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Drake at Alabama played in 42 games with 6 starts. He had 233 carries for 1,495 yards (a 6.4 average) with 18 TDs, along with 46 receptions for 570 yards (12.4 average) and 4 TDs. This season, he has 47 carries for 174 yards.

The Miami Herald reported Sunday night that several teams, including the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions, inquired about Drake in recent days, and Drake didn’t travel with the team to Pittsburgh for Monday night’s game against the Steelers. It’s unclear what the Dolphins will get in return, but Miami has asked teams for a fourth-round pick, according to a source briefed on the situation.

The Dolphins wanted to sign Drake to a contract extension last month, the Herald reported, but his agents never responded to Miami’s offer. Drake has said he hasn’t asked for a trade, but his disinterest in a new contract with the team left the Dolphins believing he doesn’t have a long-term future with the team.
