Could Nick Saban have given his friend Bill Belichick an endorsement of A.J. McCarron? Considering how close the two coaches are, it’s likely they have spoken about the former Alabama quarterback at some point. After all, Belichick was in Tuscaloosa recently to take in the Alabama Pro Day (and to catch an earful from Butch Jones).

As one free agent quarterback after another lands an offer from QB-needy teams around the NFL, McCarron is still left looking for a job after winning his appeal against his former employer in Cincinnati. Unfortunately for McCarron, it appears no team is prepared to offer him an opportunity to be a starting quarterback in the league.

If that is indeed the case, there may not be a better landing spot for a backup than New England. Tom Brady’s career began on the Patriot’s bench and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is considered one of the game’s top offensive minds. Working with both should only help McCarron’s knowledge of the NFL game.

According to Kirk Minihane of WEEI in Boston, New England has made a contract offer to the former Alabama quarterback. While Brady continues to play at an extremely high level, it would be something if McCarron was the first QB given a chance to play for the Patriots in the post-Brady era.
