Tommy Rees reportedly makes decision on Alabama offensive coordinator job
By Keith Farner
Published:
Tommy Rees was considered a top candidate for the vacant Alabama offensive coordinator position.
According to a report from Mike Berardino of the South Bend Tribune, Rees has accepted the job following an interview on Thursday. Multiple reports have suggested that Rees was a top candidate after Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb turned down the offer earlier in the week.
Rees was on Notre Dame’s coaching staff since 2017 and chose to remain with the Fighting Irish after the transition from Brian Kelly to Marcus Freeman last offseason. Rees drew criticism from Fighting Irish fans during several games, but especially in losses to Ohio State, Marshall and Stanford.
The Fighting Irish were ranked No. 60 in total offense in the country last season.
Rees will replace Bill O’Brien, who left Alabama for the same job with the New England Patriots.
